N-IL-107 — C-86
An Exceptional Ramírez from an Important Period in the Madrid Workshop
There is something unmistakable about the voice of a great traditional José Ramírez.
Built in Madrid in 1993, this José Ramírez C86 / Modelo 1A Concert Classical Guitar brings together the depth, warmth and unmistakably Spanish character associated with the historic Ramírez school with the comfort and balance of a 650 mm scale length.
This particular instrument offers that beautiful, lush Spanish character we hope to find in a Ramírez, with warm, dark basses and beautifully singing trebles. Its low action and comfortable setup make it exceptionally easy to play, while the instrument retains the richness, colour and personality that have made Ramírez concert guitars so admired by generations of classical guitarists.
More than three decades after it was built, this guitar has been carefully restored to an exceptional condition. Importantly, the instrument has no cracks or repairs, and it retains its original Fustero machine heads as well as its original hard shell case.
For the player or collector searching for an authentic Spanish concert guitar with history, character, exceptional presentation and outstanding playability, this is a particularly interesting example from the Ramírez workshop.
A must try !!!

A Distinctive Chapter in the Ramírez 1A Tradition
The C86 occupies a fascinating place in the history of José Ramírez.
The celebrated Ramírez 1A became closely associated with the larger-bodied, longer-scale concert guitars developed during the José Ramírez III era. However, demand also existed for a professional Ramírez offering the comfort of a shorter scale.
According to the Ramírez workshop, after repeated requests from Japanese distributor Shiro Arai, a new instrument was developed in 1986 around a 650 mm scale length. The designation C86 refers directly to the year in which the model was introduced.
Rather than simply shortening the neck of an existing Ramírez design, the proportions of the instrument were developed around the shorter scale. Ramírez describes the resulting C86 as having a particularly beautiful and delicate sound, creating a different interpretation of the house’s professional concert guitar while preserving the unmistakable Ramírez identity.
The company’s historical documentation also identifies the C86 among its artisan-made instruments, produced specifically with the 650 mm scale length.
From the C86 into a New Generation of Ramírez Guitars
The C86 also belongs to an important period of evolution within the Madrid workshop.
As José Ramírez IV assumed leadership of the family business, the 650 mm professional guitar continued to develop. Ramírez documents subsequent modifications intended to provide greater projection while maintaining the comfort of the shorter scale, with the professional range eventually developing into models including the Tradicional and Especial during the following era.
This 1993 C86 therefore comes from a particularly interesting moment in Ramírez history: a period connecting the celebrated 1A tradition with the continuing evolution of the company’s modern professional concert guitars.
More than thirty years later, it remains a beautiful example of the deep, colourful and expressive Spanish voice that has made the name José Ramírez one of the most recognized names in classical guitar making.
This 1993 José Ramírez has been carefully restored and brought back to an exceptional, almost new condition.
The guitar has no cracks or repairs and presents beautifully for an instrument of its age.
It retains its original Fustero machine heads and original hard shell case, while its low action and comfortable setup make it exceptionally easy to play.
The result is an instrument that can be appreciated not simply for its age and place in Ramírez history, but as a serious concert guitar ready to be played and enjoyed.
