The Wolfgang Jellinghaus Antonio de Torres FE 114 Replica is dedicated to honouring the work of Antonio de Torres (1817–1892) and recreating one of the historic instruments associated with legendary Spanish guitarist and composer Francisco Tárrega.
Built as part of the Milestone Luthier Centre project, this remarkable guitar looks back to one of the most important periods in the development of the modern classical guitar — offering today’s guitarist the opportunity to experience a carefully conceived interpretation of a historic Torres design.
Its German “Moon Cut” Spruce soundboard, distinctive three-piece Pau Ferro back, elegant wood rosette and beautifully executed hand-rubbed French polish with an aged relic appearance give the instrument extraordinary visual character. At only 1.5 kg, it remains wonderfully light in the hands, reflecting the delicacy and responsiveness associated with guitars of this tradition.

The Guitar — The FE 114 Replica
The story behind this model reaches back to 1888, when Antonio de Torres received another order from Francisco Tárrega.
According to the history behind the Milestone project, Torres constructed two of his Fina concert guitars — FE 113 and FE 114 — as part of his pursuit of the best possible musical result. One of the distinguishing features between them was the back construction: FE 113 featured a two-piece back, while FE 114 featured a three-piece back.
Wolfgang Jellinghaus’s Modelo 114 pays tribute to that historic design, including the visually distinctive three-piece back that helps give this replica its unmistakable identity.
The carefully executed relic treatment and hand-rubbed French polish are especially important to the presentation. Rather than appearing like a conventional new guitar, the instrument evokes the visual character of an historic guitar that has travelled through generations of music.
Combined with its light construction and traditional proportions, the result is a fascinating instrument that connects today’s guitarist with one of the defining periods in classical-guitar history.
Wolfgang Jellinghaus & The Milestone Luthier Centre
The Milestone Luthier Centre was founded in 2013 by Wolfgang Jellinghaus and Michael Zhang with an ambitious purpose: to revisit the history of classical guitar making through instruments inspired by master builders whose work established important new standards in construction and sound.
Rather than simply borrowing visual elements from historic guitars, the project examines the designs and construction concepts that helped shape the evolution of the instrument.
The Milestone Luthier Centre’s research and development takes place in Dortmund, Germany, while the guitars are produced at its workshop in Guangzhou, China.
The Antonio de Torres FE 114 Replica is part of this exploration of guitar-making history, paying tribute to the work of one of the most influential figures in the development of the modern classical guitar.
