Construction details by Marco Lijoi
This instrument is part of a personal project developed after many attempts to achieve a modern, contemporary voice without abandoning the tradition and character of the classical guitar. The main difference from the Hybrid model lies in the soundboard design.
This approach is less extreme than the Hybrid. The soundboard is built as a spruce sandwich with a balsa core. I chose balsa over Nomex because I prefer to work exclusively with wood and do not favor the tonal characteristics typically associated with Nomex.
The result is a different concept: a guitar that delivers strong power while preserving the essential qualities of a traditional instrument. As with my other model, the goal is to reduce mass while maintaining stiffness—here achieved through alternative construction solutions.
The bracing remains a 7-fan system, but without the transverse brace beneath the bridge. In the lower bout, the sandwich is closed with a 0.7 mm cross-grain spruce layer, allowing it to reach structural resistance comparable to a brace.
Overall, this project strikes a balance between innovation and tradition, combining modern performance with a more familiar tonal character.
The finish is a custom-developed, water-based varnish created in collaboration with a manufacturer specifically for my use. It is designed to be as thin and lightweight as possible while offering excellent resistance to wear and scratches, and it is environmentally responsible.
In short, this project brings together contemporary technology and a forward-looking vision. It reflects my approach to the modern classical guitar: a thoughtful blend of tradition and innovation, resulting in an instrument with outstanding projection, comfort, lightness, and responsiveness.
