A Captivating Córdoba Negra Built with Historic Tonewoods
Some flamenco guitars immediately reveal their personality. This exceptional 2026 Graciliano Pérez Flamenca Negra does exactly that — with a dark, singing voice, impressive depth and the unmistakable authority of a great Córdoba instrument.
Handmade in Córdoba, Spain, this Negra is built from an extraordinary combination of rare, old-aged tonewoods from the late Miguel Rodríguez stock. Graciliano Pérez was a close friend of Miguel Rodríguez, and Rodríguez’s influence can be heard throughout Graciliano’s work, particularly in the powerful, expressive character and remarkable projection of his flamenco guitars.
The voice of this particular Negra is wonderfully captivating: dark, rich and singing, with excellent sustain, strong projection and an exceptionally responsive feel under the fingers. The basses have depth and authority, while the trebles retain the clarity and brilliance necessary to make every phrase speak.
And despite its substantial voice, this guitar remains extremely easy and comfortable to play — a combination that makes it equally attractive to the serious performing flamenco guitarist and the discerning collector.
What makes this instrument particularly remarkable is the age of the wood. The Western Red Cedar top dates from 1980, while the East Indian Rosewood dates from 1975. These are woods with decades of natural maturity behind them, now brought together in a completely new instrument completed in 2026.
The result is a Negra with an unusually mature personality and a voice that is deep, powerful, lyrical and captivating.

The Guitar
This is a Negra with a wonderfully distinctive personality.
The first impression is one of depth and warmth, but the instrument never loses the clarity and immediacy required of a serious flamenco guitar. Its voice has a dark, singing quality, with powerful basses, projecting trebles and a beautiful sense of sustain that allows individual notes and phrases to remain expressive long after the initial attack.
The aged tonewoods are an extraordinary part of the story.
The 1980 Western Red Cedar soundboard brings a naturally warm and responsive character, while the 1975 East Indian Rosewood back and sides contribute depth, richness and a strong foundation to the voice. Together, they create a tonal palette that is unusually mature for a newly completed instrument.
There is also an impressive balance between power and refinement. This is not simply a loud guitar — it has colour, dimension and musicality, allowing the player to shape the sound with remarkable nuance.
The response is immediate and effortless, making fast passages and demanding flamenco techniques feel natural beneath the fingers. The guitar responds readily to the player without requiring excessive effort, while still offering plenty of headroom when pushed.
A Negra with depth, projection, sustain and exceptional playability — and a voice that is difficult to forget.
Graciliano Pérez — The Córdoba Tradition
Graciliano Pérez Carrizosa is a highly respected figure in the Córdoba guitar-making tradition. Born in 1955, he moved to Córdoba as a child and began playing guitar at an early age. His connection with the legendary Córdoba luthier Miguel Rodríguez Beneyto began when Graciliano was still young; he lived on the same street as the Rodríguez workshop and developed a lasting friendship with the Rodríguez family.
His study of Miguel Rodríguez’s instruments became an important part of his development as a builder. Graciliano examined the construction and sound of Rodríguez guitars in great depth, seeking to understand the qualities that gave them their distinctive voice.
Today, Graciliano works alongside his brother José in their Córdoba workshop, continuing a highly traditional and limited form of guitar making. Their philosophy places sound, comfort and craftsmanship at the centre of every instrument, while maintaining a strong connection to the historic Córdoba tradition.
Graciliano’s own description of his flamenco guitars highlights the influence of Miguel Rodríguez and the search for the powerful basses, brilliant trebles, abundant harmonics and projection associated with the great Córdoba instruments of the 1960s and 1970s.
This Negra takes that heritage in a particularly fascinating direction, combining Graciliano’s mature craftsmanship with tonewoods that have been naturally aging for decades.
