Douglass Scott has done it again!

This exquisite 2026 Douglass Scott N-164, featuring a comfortable 640 mm short scale, brings together the warmth and immediacy of Western Red Cedar with the depth and richness of Madagascar rosewood in a beautifully refined concert classical guitar.

Handcrafted in Canada, N-164 reflects Scott’s distinctive philosophy: an instrument deeply rooted in the traditions of Antonio de Torres, Ignacio Fleta, and Daniel Friederich, yet thoughtfully developed for the needs of today’s classical guitarist.

Warm, colourful, and responsive, this instrument is designed to offer a broad expressive palette, with the tonal flexibility and dynamic range that Scott considers essential to a truly musical guitar.

A raised fingerboard, adjustable sound port, and armrest enhance playing comfort, while the matching rosette and tie-block details, elegant wood selection, and French polish lend the instrument a refined, understated beauty.

For guitarists seeking an exceptional handcrafted Canadian concert instrument with warmth, responsiveness, tonal colour, and a deeply musical personality, N-164 is a particularly compelling example of Douglass Scott’s work.

The Guitar

N-164 beautifully demonstrates the qualities Douglass Scott seeks in his concert guitars: vitality, tonal colour, flexibility, and an intuitive connection between musician and instrument.

Scott’s approach goes beyond projection alone. His instruments are conceived to offer a broad, linear response across both tonal colour and dynamics, together with balanced sustain and the brilliance required of a refined concert guitar.

Every element serves the musical experience, bringing traditional acoustic principles together with contemporary refinements that support the player’s comfort and expressive freedom.

The result is an instrument designed not simply to produce a beautiful sound, but to respond naturally to the guitarist’s musical intentions.

Douglass Scott — Canadian Guitar Making

Born in Paris, France, Douglass Scott spent part of his childhood living and travelling internationally before eventually settling in Canada. He began studying classical guitar at the age of seven while living in Singapore.

Scott built his first guitar in 1998, while studying music at university. His growing fascination with instrument making subsequently led him to further studies in guitar construction, professional repair work on Vancouver Island, and several years of close study and collaboration with experienced luthiers.

He has been building guitars professionally full-time since 2004.

Drawing inspiration from the great traditions of Daniel Friederich, Ignacio Fleta, and Antonio de Torres, Scott has developed a distinctive approach centred on vitality, tonal colour, even sustain, brilliance, and a broad, intuitive dynamic response.

His limited production and individual attention to each instrument make every Douglass Scott guitar a remarkable expression of contemporary Canadian lutherie.
