The Yamaha GC-42C represents the finest traditions of Japanese craftsmanship, blending the influence of traditional Spanish guitar making with Yamaha’s renowned precision and decades of acoustic research.

Built in 2001, this concert-level instrument has matured beautifully over more than two decades, allowing its tone to develop remarkable depth, warmth, and complexity.

Its solid, naturally aged Western Red Cedar soundboard delivers an immediate, expressive response with a rich palette of colors, while the solid Madagascar Rosewood back and sides provide exceptional projection, sustain, and harmonic richness. The result is an instrument with warm, lyrical basses, beautifully focused trebles, and an impressive dynamic range suited to both the concert stage and the discerning recording artist.

Every GC Series guitar is handcrafted from carefully selected tonewoods, with Yamaha’s refined fan-bracing design enhancing responsiveness, volume, and tonal balance. The instrument speaks effortlessly under the fingers, offering outstanding clarity across the entire fingerboard while maintaining the warmth and musicality for which cedar is so highly regarded.

Finished in traditional hand-applied shellac (French polish), the GC-42C allows the wood to vibrate with minimal restriction. As the finish and tonewoods continue to mature, the guitar develops an increasingly refined voice, becoming richer, sweeter, and more resonant with every year of playing.

Highly respected among concert performers and collectors alike, the GC-42C offers exceptional value within the world of professional classical guitars. Combining mature tonewoods, superb craftsmanship, and Yamaha’s unwavering commitment to quality, this 2001 example is a refined and inspiring instrument that will continue to reward its next owner for decades to come.
