A Rare Canadian Concert Guitar — Individually Crafted, Exceptionally Limited
There are instruments that impress through specifications, and others whose character becomes apparent the moment they are played. This exceptional 2026 Douglass Scott N-158 belongs firmly in the latter category.
Handcrafted in Canada by one of the country’s highly regarded independent classical guitar makers, N-158 reflects Scott’s distinctive approach: a guitar rooted in the great traditional schools of Torres, Fleta and Friederich, yet developed into a sophisticated modern concert instrument with remarkable vitality, colour and responsiveness.
This particular guitar pairs a European spruce soundboard with Wenge rosewood, producing an instrument conceived around tonal flexibility, brilliance, balance and a broad dynamic response. Scott’s elevated fingerboard, adjustable sound port, armrest and tornavoz further reveal an instrument designed not only around sound, but around the needs of the contemporary concert guitarist.
Visually, N-158 is equally distinctive, featuring a newly designed handcrafted rosette, complemented by a matching tie-block inlay and Scott’s characteristically refined workmanship.
This guitar was pre-sold from our annual allocation before becoming available for general sale.
Douglass Scott produces only a very limited number of guitars each year, and Grand Guitar Salon typically receives only one or two instruments annually. Players and collectors wishing to secure a future Scott guitar are warmly encouraged to contact us in advance regarding upcoming allocations.

The Guitar
N-158 is an excellent expression of Douglass Scott’s contemporary interpretation of the traditional concert guitar.
Rather than abandoning traditional principles in pursuit of power, Scott develops from them. His instruments are conceived to offer a broad and intuitive response, allowing the player to explore changes in colour and dynamics naturally while maintaining balance, sustain and brilliance throughout the register.
The European spruce soundboard contributes to the instrument’s clarity and expressive potential, while Scott’s carefully developed construction gives the guitar the vitality and malleability he considers fundamental to his sound.
Modern performance features are incorporated thoughtfully rather than becoming the identity of the instrument. The raised fingerboard facilitates upper-register access, while the armrest and adjustable sound port contribute to player comfort and the experience of hearing the instrument from behind the guitar.
The result is a concert guitar that feels simultaneously traditional in its musical foundation and distinctly individual in its execution.
Douglass Scott — Canadian Guitar Making
Born in Paris, France, Douglass Scott spent part of his childhood living and travelling internationally before his family settled in Canada. He began studying classical guitar in Singapore at seven years old, beginning a relationship with the instrument that would ultimately become his life’s work.
Scott built his first guitar in 1998 while studying music at university. Fascinated by the process of creating musical instruments, he subsequently attended guitar-building school, worked in guitar repair on Vancouver Island and spent several years studying and working closely with experienced luthiers.
He has been building guitars professionally full-time since 2004.
At the heart of Scott’s work remains a fundamentally traditional approach. He openly acknowledges the influence of makers such as Antonio de Torres, Ignacio Fleta and Daniel Friederich, whose instruments helped shape his understanding of the classical guitar.
His objective is not simply volume, but an instrument possessing vitality, malleability and colour — with an intuitive tonal and dynamic response, even sustain and the brilliance required of a refined concert guitar.
