An Exceptional Canadian Concert Guitar — Rarely Available
Douglass Scott has done it again. This remarkable 2025 N-148 is another beautiful example of his ability to combine the refinement and musical character of the traditional classical guitar with the responsiveness and playing comfort expected from a modern concert instrument.
Built around a European spruce soundboard and Katalox rosewood back and sides, N-148 is conceived to offer the vitality, tonal colour, balance and brilliance that define Scott’s approach to guitar making.
Scott’s design remains deeply rooted in tradition, drawing inspiration from Torres, Fleta and Friederich, yet the instrument is unmistakably contemporary in execution. A raised fingerboard, adjustable sound port, armrest and tornavoz are integrated naturally into an elegant concert guitar rather than defining its appearance.
The result is an instrument designed to give the guitarist a broad, responsive tonal palette, with excellent dynamic control, even sustain and the ability to move naturally between different colours and levels of expression.
This particular N-148 was pre-sold as a special order.
With Douglass Scott producing only a very limited number of guitars each year, Grand Guitar Salon generally receives just one or two instruments annually. Players interested in acquiring one of his future guitars are encouraged to contact us in advance to discuss upcoming allocations and reservations.

The Guitar
N-148 captures the qualities Douglass Scott seeks in his instruments: vitality, malleability, colour and an intuitive response to the player.
Rather than pursuing a single dominant tonal characteristic, Scott aims for a broad palette that allows the guitarist to shape both colour and dynamics naturally. Balance and even sustain from note to note are equally important, giving the instrument the discipline and refinement expected of a serious concert guitar.
The European spruce soundboard complements this philosophy beautifully, offering clarity and brilliance while allowing the player’s touch to remain central to the musical result.
Scott also incorporates contemporary ergonomic ideas without abandoning the identity of the traditional classical guitar. The result is an instrument that remains visually refined while providing the accessibility and versatility sought by today’s concert guitarist.
Douglass Scott — Tradition Through a Canadian Voice
Born in Paris, France, Douglass Scott spent his childhood living and travelling in several countries before eventually settling in Canada. His relationship with the classical guitar began at seven years old while living in Singapore.
He built his first guitar in 1998 while studying music at university. His fascination with instrument making subsequently led him to guitar-building school, professional repair work on Vancouver Island and several years of close study and work alongside experienced luthiers.
Scott has been building guitars professionally full-time since 2004.
His construction remains fundamentally traditional, with Scott acknowledging the influence of Daniel Friederich, Ignacio Fleta and Antonio de Torres. From those foundations, however, he has developed an individual approach focused on creating guitars with a broad tonal and dynamic response, exceptional brilliance, even sustain and a distinctly musical sense of flexibility.
Today, his limited production makes each new instrument a relatively rare opportunity.
