A Tribute to Andrés Segovia’s Historic Guitar
In 1912, Santos Hernández built a guitar in the workshop of Manuel Ramírez that would become inseparable from the early career of Andrés Segovia.
For approximately 25 years, Segovia performed on this remarkable instrument, helping bring the classical guitar to the world’s most prestigious concert stages. Today, the original guitar is preserved in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Wolfgang Jellinghaus pays homage to this extraordinary legacy through a carefully executed replica, faithfully reproducing the essential design and character of the original instrument while selecting beautiful Pau Ferro for the back and sides.
The result is a distinctive concert guitar that celebrates the craftsmanship, musical heritage, and enduring influence of one of history’s most iconic instruments.
The Milestone Luthier Centre — Preserving Guitar-Making History
This guitar is produced at the Milestone Luthier Centre, founded in 2013 by Wolfgang Jellinghaus and Michael Zhang.
The centre was established with an ambitious vision: to revisit the history of classical guitar making through the work of six influential master builders whose instruments helped define the evolution of the guitar over the past 230 years.
By studying and recreating these historically significant designs, the Milestone Luthier Centre seeks to preserve traditional construction methods while making their musical qualities accessible to contemporary guitarists.
Research and development take place in Dortmund, Germany, while the instruments are crafted at the workshop in Guangzhou, China.
This thoughtful collaboration combines historical research, traditional craftsmanship, and meticulous attention to detail.
